Overview

Healthcare fraud cost billions per year. Since its 1976 establishment, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) has been at the forefront of the nation's efforts to fight waste, fraud and abuse and to improve the efficiency of Medicare, Medicaid and more than 100 other Department of Health & Human Services programs. NPs can be at risk by what they do not know. It could jeopardize the NP's ability to provide care, result in fines or jail time, and affect their reputation. Learn about cases from the OIG across the country, who was involved, what constitutes fraudulent activity, what transpired during the investigations and outcomes with respect to fines and jail time. Learn how to protect yourself from becoming an unwitting participant.
