Greetings from your Chapter President

Posted almost 4 years ago

Greetings,

My name is Alexandria Nwaozuru, your 2020-2021 Houston NAPNAP President. As I take on this new role, I am excited to continue the great work completed by the past presidents. As we reflect on the first six months of 2020, we know that it has brought unexpected surprises. This year has challenged us greatly, bringing about unexpected deaths, global pandemics, racial injustices, police brutality, job insecurity, anxiety, and panic for many. I never knew starting off this year, that I would have been in a hospital bed only to later be faced with some of the challenges noted above. As I reflect on this, I realize how great the events of 2020 has affected Houston NAPNAP, our community, and our families. Yes, this has been a difficult year, but we will rise above it all... TOGETHER, one day at a time. Houston NAPNAP has shown its strength and resilience, as we continue to serve in our roles as front line workers and experts in our fields during the COVID-19 pandemic. I encourage you all to continue to press forward and know that this experience will only make us stronger individuals and healthcare providers.

This year we will strive to address our membership’s needs, as well as the needs of our community. The recent acts of social injustices has caused great strain for our patient population. We intend to address these needs directly in our community, as well as the mental distress placed on our pediatric population. As our national NAPNAP office has expressed in the Statement on Discrimination and Child Health, “Children deserve a community absent of discrimination, cognizant of individuality and supportive of resilient development”.  We will continue to advocate for this, and work towards a more peaceful future for our children.

HOUSTON NAPNAP WANTS TO HEAR FROM YOU!

As we go through this uncertain time, we want to make sure we stay in tune with our membership as much as possible. For the duration of the year, we plan on conducting virtual CMEs. We want to stay engaged with you, as well as provide you with more education opportunities while in the comfort of your home. We will be conducting a survey over the next two weeks so that you can tell us your needs. Please follow the link at the bottom of this post to complete a quick, 2 minute survey. If you have any additional questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us at houstonnapnap@gmail.com.
