Houston NAPNAP Member Spotlight: Dr. Tomika Harris

Dr. Tomika Harris is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with 24 years of pediatric nursing experience. She is currently the President-elect the Houston NAPNAP chapter for the 2020-2021 term.  Dr. Harris received her BSN and MSN from the University of Rochester and her DNP from The University of South Florida. Currently, she practices full time at UTHealth McGovern Medical School High-Risk Children’s Clinic in Houston, Texas where she provides primary care to children with chronic and complex medical conditions. Over the course of her nursing career, Dr. Harris has held a variety of leadership positions in clinical and academic settings as well as professional and community organizations.

Dr. Harris is passionate about child health and believes that all children should have access to high-quality, comprehensive health care. Her clinical interests include children and youth with special health care needs, care of underserved and minority populations, chronic care, and child maltreatment.

Dr. Harris is an active member of NAPNAP and has held leadership positions at the local and national level within the organization. She is currently the co-chair of the Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs SIG. Dr. Harris served on the Houston Area NAPNAP board initially in 2010, when she was elected President. In 2019 she served as the Program Co-chair and helped coordinate the chapter’s monthly educational meetings and the 2019 Potpourri Conference.

Outside of work, she is active in her church and she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
