Houston NAPNAP Member Spotlight: Christi Wargo

Christi Lynn Wargo, MSN. APRN, CPNP-PC, is a board certified and Texas state

licensed pediatric nurse practitioner. She has been providing care for pediatric patients

with the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in the departments of Pediatric

Dermatology and General Academic Pediatrics since October of 2016. Christi graduated

with her Associates in Nursing in 2001 from College of the Mainland and from there

went on to the UTMB School of Nursing, where she received her Bachelor’s in

Nursing in 2003 and then her Master’s in Nursing for Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in

  1. She is currently enrolled once again in UTMB (SON) for her Doctorate in Nursing

Practice with plans to graduate in the Spring of 2022. Christi is fluent in English and

Spanish.

Prior to joining UTMB, Christi was appointed a Faculty/Instructor position with Baylor

College of Medicine and did community health care with the Texas Children’s’ Mobile

Clinic Outreach Program in Southwest Houston. She then accepted a position with a

Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Bell’s Hill Community clinic in Waco from

2012-2014. In 2014, she relocated back to Houston and started the school-based Kruse

clinic at Memorial Hermann Health Centers for Schools in Pasadena. From 2015-2016,

Christi and her family served as missionaries in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Christi

has a great love of community and spends much of her free time volunteering both in

Texas as well as abroad.

She is also currently serving on the boards of: NAPNAP Global Health SIG as co-chair,

Refuge for Women Texas Gulf Coast, and Jubileo Dominican Republic. She previously

served as Houston NAPNAP Community Co-Chair 2017-2021. Christi is the proud

recipient of the Houston NAPNAP President’s Award 2020 and DNP Scholarship 2021.

Christi is a member of the NAPNAP Dermatology SIG and UTMB APP Council.

Christi is currently a NAPNAP Act Advocate and has presented “Labor and Sex

Trafficking Overview for Healthcare Professionals,” to many audiences. Christi also

provides lectures and education on pediatric dermatology conditions.

Christi is the proud wife of Eric for fourteen years and the proud mother of Zoe, Diego,

and Ethan. Christi and her family are actively involved in their church and enjoy

traveling and mission/community work. Christi loves travel, food, culture, coffee, and

dancing. Upon her DNP graduation, Christi aspires to advance her community and international

work through mentoring and teaching.
